Our story
Pat Bernauer started the agency in 1986, and it has been a small family office ever since. His son Spencer is the second generation, and between them they run two offices: Lakeville and Northeast Minneapolis.
We're independent, so we shop your coverage across a number of companies instead of selling whatever one carrier wants moved that month. For home and auto, those include Acuity, Integrity Insurance (a Grange company), Liberty Mutual (formerly Safeco), Nationwide, Travelers and West Bend — see every company we work with. Pat Bernauer
Founder
Pat founded Bernauer Insurance Agency in 1986 and has spent 40 years protecting Minnesota families and businesses. He built the agency on the idea that people deserve an agent who knows them by name, not by policy number — and that principle still runs the place.

Spencer Bernauer
Agent
Spencer is the second generation of the agency. He runs the Northeast Minneapolis office and answers his own phone; home, auto and business insurance are his lines, he is a certified MNsure broker like Pat, and the aerial photographs on this site are his.

We're a small independent agency with offices in Lakeville and Northeast Minneapolis, licensed to write across the entire state of Minnesota. Pat runs the Lakeville office and Spencer runs Northeast Minneapolis, so you'll know exactly who you're calling.

We service the entire state of Minnesota.
The towns below are simply where most of our clients happen to live — they aren't the limit of where we can work. Our license covers all 87 Minnesota counties, Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud and Moorhead included, and either of us can take your call from Greater Minnesota. Which companies we can shop for you varies a little by address, the way it does for any independent agency, but that's a carrier's footprint rather than ours. If your town isn't on the list, call and ask — the answer is almost always yes.
