Where we serve
Insurance for the whole Twin Cities metro.
Bernauer Insurance Agency is an independent, family-owned insurance agency serving the Twin Cities metro from two offices, one in Northeast Minneapolis and one in Lakeville. The family story is on our About page.
We group the metro the way people here give directions. Which number you start with follows the county line: Dakota and Scott counties start with Pat, and the rest of the metro starts with Spencer. It decides who picks up first, not who’s allowed to help you.

How it works, wherever you live
We’re independent, so we compare carriers instead of selling one company’s policy.
Stuck on a MNsure application? Start at MNsure help, or call Spencer.
Quotes and paperwork happen by phone, email or video, weekdays 8:30 to 5. Saturdays and in-person meetings are by appointment. No charge for the conversation.
Questions about where we work
Which number should I call first?
If you live in Dakota or Scott County, start with Pat at the Lakeville office, 952-457-5894. Anywhere else in the metro, start with Spencer at the Northeast Minneapolis office, 952-956-2502. For MNsure help, home, renters, auto, umbrella or commercial insurance, call Spencer wherever you live. Call the other one by mistake and you’ll be passed along, not sent back to the start.
Can I work with whichever of you I already know?
Yes. The county line only decides who picks up first. If you already know Pat or Spencer, keep calling the one you know, wherever you live. For the lines that start with Spencer, Pat will bring him in.
My town isn’t on the list. Can you still help?
Almost always. The lists cover the Twin Cities metro, but our license covers all 87 Minnesota counties. Which carriers we can shop varies a little by address. Outside the metro, call either of us. Pat and Spencer share the calls from Greater Minnesota.
What happens to my policies if I move across the metro?
You keep us as your agency. Tell us the new address before you move. A new house needs its own homeowners policy, and where a car is parked overnight can change the auto rate, so a move is a good time to compare carriers again.
